INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE TRYING TO DENY COVERAGE FOR DIALYSIS PATIENTS

**TAKE ACTION TODAY TO OPPOSE SENATE BILL 1156 TO PROTECT DIALYSIS PATIENTS**

Access to insurance coverage is critical for patients with End State Renal Disease, or kidney failure. Unfortunately, private insurance companies, most of which are for-profit, have a long history of not wanting to cover dialysis patients because of the high cost of their necessary treatment.

And it is the insurance companies who are behind California Senate Bill 1156 (Leyva) that would effectively slash reimbursement rates for private insurance companies and potentially force numerous facility closures, especially in rural and underserved areas. As a result, many patients will be required to find new dialysis centers, some of which will be much further away from their current facility.

SB 1156 is nothing more than a thinly-veiled attempt by health insurance companies to discriminate against very sick kidney disease patients – to kick them off private insurance plans and force these vulnerable individuals into government-sponsored plans like Medicare or Medi-Cal.
